A Bit About Me

Welcome! My name is Oli and I am the founder and physiotherapist for Small Steps Children's Physiotherapy. I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a 1st class degree in BSc Physiotherapy.

I have always known I wanted to specialize in Paediatric Physiotherapy and I love helping children and families achieve their goals.

Below you'll find a list of my experience since graduating from University. I always strive to continually learn and develop my practice so that I can offer the best for my patients.

When I'm not working, you'll find me open water swimming, hiking in the Peak District, playing all different types of sports and generally just having a laugh my fiance and friends!

My Experience

Paediatric Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Team Lead

Advanced Clinical Practitioner Paediatric Orthopaedic Physiotherapy

Neurological Community Paediatric Physiotherapist - covering special schools, neurological outpatients and home visits

I currently work in the NHS as the team lead for a paediatric MSK Physiotherapy service.

I see children from 0-18, with a wide range of orthopaedic conditions, carrying out 1:1 appointments, hydrotherapy and exercise classes. I see patients referred from orthopaedic consultants, paediatricians and fracture clinic.

Alongside treating children, my role allows me to carry out training and support my team and wider services within the hospital.

I also see children acutely post-op and help them to return to their school and day to day activities and hobbies/sports.

I spent a year under a specialist orthopaedic consultant in paediatrics and worked as a first contact practitioner, seeing children who have been referred directly into orthopaedic clinic from their GP's. Throughout this time, I received training on:

  • Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH)

  • Perthes

  • Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis (SUFE)

  • Infections and tumours

  • Normal growth variances

  • Support with serial casting and clinical appropriateness

  • Identification of red flags requiring onward imaging

Within this role, I also did joint clinics with the orthopaedic consultant for children with neurodisability (GMFCS Level 1-5) and ran pre and post botox clinics (please note this did not include injecting).

I spent 4-5 years working in a community paediatric team working with children diagnosed with a wide range of neurodevelopmental/neurodisability conditions.

This included treating children in various clinical settings including; outpatients, childrens home, mainstream schools and special schools for children with profound physical/learning disabilities.
